Former
president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday called on rich and wealthy
Nigerians to help the hopeless and the less-privileged members of the society.
Obasanjo
stated this at the carol service organised by hs church ; the Chapel of Christ
The Glorious King, located inside the premises Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential
Library, Abeokuta, capital of Ogun State.
The
former president also called on private investors to come to Ogun State and
invest, given the infrastructural development and relative peace being enjoyed
there.
He
appealed to the former head of Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan
and other industrialists who were indigenes of the state to use their
connections in the private sector in attracting more industries to the state.
He said,
“I want to appeal to the rich in the society to always remember the less
privileged in the society. There are many children without hope out there. We
should come to their aid. There are boys and girls in our communities with such
problem.
“They
have been part of us here and I want to thank the governor for promising to
assist them after I had told him about their plight. For us with hope, we
should help them,”he said.
Obasanjo
said he shared Shonekan’s view, as expressed at the carol service organised by
the state government on Monday, that the state had witnessed infrastructural
transformation, peace and security under the current administration.
He said,
“The challenge is for you to bring your colleagues in the private sector and
give us more companies.
The
occasion witnessed prayers for the state, the country, and Obasanjo’s family
and had in attendance traditional rulers, politicians, and choristers from
different churches in who sang different Christmas carols.
