Gov.
Rochas Okorocha of Imo has declared Dec. 19, 2014 to Jan. 5, 2015 as public
holidays for civil servants in the state.
Okorocha
announced this in Christmas/New Year Messages and Presentation of his score
card at the Government House in Owerri.
He
assured Imo people and those visiting the state this festive period that all
necessary machineries have been put in place to ensure adequate security in all
nooks and crannies of the State.
He urged
people to be of good conduct and help to fish out criminals in their localities
and wished them hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Okorocha
said there was every reason to celebrate.
He said
the total transformation in the state in the past three years and seven months
could not have been possible but for God’s intervention.
He
thanked Imo people for being supportive of the “Rescue Mission” government.
The
governor said 322 primary and secondary schools had been built, while two
campuses of Imo Polytechnic at Orlu and Ehime Mbano, were opened.
He said
1,800km of roads had been constructed in both urban and rural areas with many
inland bridges in the state.
According
to him, contract has been awarded for the dualisation of Owerri to Akokwa and
Okigwe road.
“The road
revolution will continue until all roads in Imo are tarred”, he said.
Okorocha said
security had greatly improved in the state following the establishment of Imo
Security Network, Imo Community Watch and Imo Civil Guard.
The new
security outfits, he said, work in tandem with the Police, SSS and other
security agencies in maintaining peace and order.
He pointed out that 25,000 youths had been employed into the Youth Must Work Programme.

Others,
he added, work in the Imo Young Engineers Corps (IYEC) as well as the
empowerment of Ohaji/Egbema youths, among others.
He
commended members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo for electing
him as the party’s flag bearer in the general elections in 2015. (NAN)
