At least
8,000 delegates are expected to choose the presidential candidate of the All
Progressives Congress, APC, at its national convention commencing tomorrow in
Lagos, party spokesman, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said yesterday.
Mohammed
vowed that given the determination of the party to change the course of the
country, the party would ensure that the “process of effecting that change has
commenced with the effective mobilisation of Nigerians to demand the change in
the 2015 general elections.”
Five
presidential aspirants, namely: Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, General Muhammadu Buhari
(rtd), Sam Nda-Isaiah, Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and Governor Rochas Okorocha
are scheduled to vie for the presidential ticket of the party.
Mohammed,
at the briefing, defended the change of venue from Abuja to Lagos. According to
him, central to the decision was neutrality, accommodation availability and
security concerns.
He
saidJos, Plateau State, which was central enough was not chosen because of
security concerns, adding that the party took a deliberate decision to ensure
that the states of the aspirants contending were not chosen.
