The Hope
Democratic Party (HDP) on Tuesday elected Chief Ambrose Owuru as its
presidential candidate for the upcoming elections in 2015.
The
election was held at the party’s headquarters in Gwarimpa, Abuja, during its
third National Convention.
Chief
Ambrose Owuru, who is the current National Chairman and presidential candidate
of the party, said that the party had no doubt lived up to its name since
inception.
“We have
been engaged in positive programmes of re-engineering the polity and agitating
for social welfare through our foundation, Hope Africa Foundation (HAF),
engaged in political education.”
Owuru
said that the party had instituted the Hope Africa Leadership Academy (HALA) and
was currently setting up Africa Leadership University (ALU) to help grow future
leaders.
“This is
manifested in the highly televised Leadership Reality TV Show called “Model
President Africa”.
“While
others are concerned only about elections, we are a new generation party of
statesmen who work for the future of our people,” he said.
According
to him, the party, in spite of disruptions in its political activities in the
last two years, made successes, especially in its court cases against INEC.
He urged Nigerians
to stand up and support the nation by participating in the electoral processes
that would lead to the election of qualified and credible leaders.
Owuru
urged all to see to the involvement, through the HDP, of a new way of political
party engagement and provision of effective leadership at all levels of the
society.
In his
remarks, Adamu Sango, Organising Secretary, Katsina State chapter, said the
consensus was made on Tuesday to elect Chief Ambrose Owuru to lead in the
presidential race.
He expressed
the hope that Owuru would meet the expectations of party members and Nigerians
if elected to power.
Another
representative, Mr Chukwunonso Martins, from Anambra, said the party was moving
forward as a great one and would be able to produce eligible candidates in
2015. (NAN)
