The Nigerian Army on Sunday said it had re-captured Chibok town from the Boko Haram militants who attacked it on Thursday.
The sect members were said to have forced several residents to flee after they stormed the town on Thursday, shooting indiscriminately and burning houses.
One of the Chibok residents who fled to the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, told Channels Television that residents “Started hearing gunshots at about 5pm on Thursday, there was confusion everywhere, forcing many to flee.”
He further said that a combined team of the military, local hunters and the civilian JTF have been moved into the town but nothing has been heard about their operation since then.
However, in a statement to AFP on Sunday, Nigerian Army spokesman General Olajide Olaleye said “mopping up ops ongoing. (The) town is now secured”.
Also, tweets from the Defence Headquaters noted that normalcy had returned to Chibok community.
