There are
strong indications that the multi-milion naira Imo Film Academy which is
constructed by Rochas Okorocha-led administration in Imo State, has collapsed.
The
Academy, located within the premises of the Imo State College of Advanced
Professional Studies, ICAPS, along Egbu Road, Owerri, allegedly collapsed less
than two weeks after it was commissioned by the state government.
But
reacting to the devastating news when contacted by Vanguard, the
Director-General of the Academy, actress Nkeiru Sylvanus denied the incident,
claiming “there was no collapse of building.” According to her, “We relocated
because His Excellency wants to build a more befitting structure that will
serve the Academy and Imo people better.”
Meanwhile, it was gathered that the building collapsed few days ago, less
than four months after a new security gate being constructed behind the main
entrance gate to the Government House reportedly collapsed.
It was
uncertain whether there was any casualty or not, because according to sources,
the debris had to be cleared for them to know.
Okorocha
had set up the Film Village as part of the measures to promote the identity and
cultural heritage of the Igbos. He appointed actress Nkeiru Silvanus who was
formerly his Special Assistant, as the Director-General of the Academy.
